Like It Says, He Took It In The Butt

When Jim Rice (the greatest ballplayer not in the Hall Of Fame) retired, Roger Clemens became my new favorite player. A few years prior to that, I had the balls to wear a Clemens jersey to a game at Yankee Stadium and the courage to keep it on the whole time, despite threats throughout the game and on the subway from and to Manhattan. When Clemens left the Sox for the Blue Jays, I had no problem with that. When he sold his soul two years later and joined the Yankees, he became dead to me. He did the one thing a true Red Sox player never does: He became the enemy. I often wondered how he could do that to all of us in Red Sox Nation, but now I think I understand. He wasn't thinking straight after taking it in the butt in Toronto for two seasons. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.) Who knew the Rocket was an ass man?

Touchy Feeley

It was almost worth the Eagles losing to have their idiot fans shut the hell up about how A.J. Feeley should be the starting QB regardless if Donovan McNabb is hurt or not. For some reason (maybe because he's black, maybe because a large number of Eagles fans have negative IQs, maybe both), this city has never taken to McNabb, which is completely screwed up, given he's the best QB in franchise history and that he seems like he's a smart, well-adjusted, decent human being. (If the rest of the NFL was like him, commish Roger Goodell would probably sleep like a baby.) After proclaiming Feeley the team savior after he almost beat the Pats (he would have beaten them had he not been picked off three times), Eagles fan were thankful McNabb was still hurt so their new favorite player could start at QB on Sunday against the Seahawks. Once again, Feeley did what he does best; throw costly interceptions, keeping his team from winning. He got picked off four times, which is something McNabb has never been able to accomplish. In fact, in the history of the NFL, McNabb is the second least-intercepted QB. Given how much the Eagles throw (and Andy Reid likes to pass more than he likes to eat), that is quite an accomplished. The worst thing a QB can do is be intercepted, and only one player since the beginning of the NFL has avoided that more than McNabb (based on the percentage of passes intercepted per attempt). This year, Feeley has attempted 103 passes, and eight of them have been picked; McNabb has attempted 326, and only six of them have been picked. I could go on and on, citing stats about touchdowns and QB ratings and scrambling, but I won't. I just wish Eagles fans would realize how good they have had it since McNabb came here.

Same Old Sixers? Maybe Not

The Sixers stepped up when they needed to, held Little Ben Wallace to four boards (none on the offense side) and one point and got a big first win despite terrible three-point shooting and turning the ball over way too much. Guess I'm back on the bandwagon.

I'm still missing Steve Mix ("heh heh heh heh"), however, and I don't understand why Comcast has decided to broadcast some of the Sixers games on a non-HD channel (which, incidentally, Comcast owns).

Same Old Sixers

Some things never change. The Sixers opened the 2007-2008 season in mid-season form. They kept it really close for a quarter, fell into a bit of a hole by halftime, fell into a huge hole in the third quarter, battled back to cut a 22-point deficit to one, gave up the rare four-point play and then could never get it close again. Sure they lost a lot of games this same way when they had Allen Iverson, but at least those were entertaining to watch.

Speaking of entertaining to watch: I miss Steve "The Mayor Of Mixville" Mix being the Sixers' TV analyst, even if he is a Republican.

The Red Sox Win The World Series ... Again

The Red Sox have now won their second World Series in four years. For those of us who were long-time fans before 2004, this just feels wrong. I don't want to be part of a dynasty. Dynasties are why we hate the Yankees. Thank god I'm also a Phillies fan.
